The exuberant Moose Group headed for the mountains on Wednesday.
In the foothills, we passed by two moose that we were able to observe through binoculars from a safe distance. Our group leaders told us of their adaptations for deep snow, which the moose readily demonstrated on cue as they grazed upslope.
We reached an overlook of Taggart Lake and discussed the U-shaped valleys in the Teton Range that were carved by a relatively recent period of glaciation.
Our lunch spot was the spectacularly reflective Bradley Lake. The students were able to resist disturbing the reflection with thrown rocks for a whole of 14 seconds.
The descent from the snowy slopes through the foothills was a relative pleasure cruise compared to the exertion of the morning climb. The students ended the day with a sense of accomplishment, an appropriate level of exhaustion and maybe a few blisters. It was glorious.
