A Community Debates

Wyoming, like every other place on the planet, faces a maelstrom of competing interests:  how do people best balance the needs of nature, the need to earn a living, the need to pass on a habitable environment to future generations? At the heart of it here, locally, are ever-impinging gas and oil explorations and the mixed need of local communities. Citizens need jobs, need cheap gas and heating and they love the nature that surrounds them.
Last night small groups took the role of different stakeholders, debated what they wanted and needed and then did their best to compromise. It had been a long day but these 8th graders always rally when it's time to do so. This observer, at least, was mightily impressed.
